The marble sculpture is a high quality replica of the Lancellotti Discus’s, a copy of the Roman age (II century BC) from an original by the Greek sculptor Mirone. For the complicated pose of the figure, this sculpture is an element of innovation compared to the archaic sculptural tradition. The focus is on the body of the athlete: the pose is the movement of the muscles that precede the act of throwing the disc.
