APOLLO BELVEDERE

The piece is a copy of Apollo Belvedere, one of the most celebrated sculptures of the post-Hellenistic period, which is hosted in the Vatican Museums and dates to the 2nd century AD. The statue represents the Greek god Apollo who has just killed Python, divinity from Delphi; Apollo wears a cloak tied to her right shoulder and possesses curls that fall fluidly on the neck elegantly gathered on the head by an ornamental band, symbol of belonging to the world of deities. During the Renaissance, sculpture was seen as the utmost expression of ideal beauty, which is replicated here with the face turned to the left in a dynamic movement.
